Silencio an anti-bully story

“Silencio,” the film created by Yardenne, is the story of Joseph, a teenager being picked on due to his ambiguous sexuality. With no positive male role model in his life and an ultra-religious mother who pays him little attention, Joseph has no hope of escaping his tormentors.

The boy eventually strikes up a platonic friendship with Mr. Black, who is gay, played by actor Meshach Taylor, a resident of Altadena. After tragedy befalls Mr. Black, Joseph is left with nowhere to turn. He joins a gang and does some terrible things before finally admitting he is on the wrong path.

In the second tier of the project, students will produce their own film, “Silencio: The Anti-Bullying Project.” In that film, students will direct, write and shoot their own story involving bullying. Tamir Films is currently seeking donations for that part of the project. For more information, visit tamirfilms.com.

After that, Yardenne will return to the helm of “Silencio: Behind the Scenes,” where students will express themselves through art, including one local student who was so desperate that he said he wanted to “take a gun to his head and splatter his red blood on white walls.”

“These students [who are bullied] have no hope,” Yardenne said. “For some of them, the arts are all they have. We have to find ways to make them hopeful again. I think the behind-the-scenes [moments] will be the most touching,” Yardenne said. “We want to create what the bullying does and how these kids express themselves. We want to get the back story and why they feel it is important.”

Film Festivals

Lots of people disagree with me, mostly the ones with film festivals...but I don't think they should charge a red cent to the filmmakers  if there isn't any dang prize money.  What is up with that?  People pay money to see the shows, good or bad.  I'm griping only because it's costing me a fortune to try and get noticed.  That's all I had to say.  I'm not in a talkative mood. There's a toilet running somewhere and it's driving me nuts.  Gotta find it.  Maybe I'll write more later.

Chicago web designer

When I graduated from school for computer programming, I had a very specific picture of what my career would look like. I would get my degree, quickly find a career, write code in a cubicle, work my way up, and make a lot of money. Most importantly, I would like doing it. Unfortunately, like a lot of careers, it didn't work out how I wanted. It took me almost a year to obtain a job, and when I did, I loathed it. I felt trapped. I mean, I like writing code, but when you are told to tear up and debug unreadable twenty year old code for hours on end, it is not a very pleasant experience. I won't name names, but I quit after three years to look for more enjoyable work.

I found a position as a receptionist to make rent while I searched for something new. The majority of the regular positions I was fit for seemed to be one in the same. Did I take up the right degree? Did I really want to work on a computer screen for the rest of my career?

A friend of mine told me I should try SEO. I was skeptical at first, but he convinced me to look into it. So I started asking about it. It looked as if a huge number of people in the line of work LOVED their career. The working environments are much more tolerable, and because there are so many out of the gate websites and web design companies, programmers have more freedom to write their own programs and consult with the one that actually created the code they are fixing.

A former classmate offered me a shot at Edigitalstudios. It was a small chicago web design company with only a handful of co-workers. I was happy with the close work environment and enthusiastic attitudes. To state my previous programming positions were depressing would be an understatement. Here, I was allowed to voice my opinion, contribute new , and [flesh them out into projects. eDigitalStudios has since expanded into a Chicago SEO company. I still am employed there currently, six years later. Its's awesome.

So I guess the lesson of the story is: Don't be caught off guard or disappointed if your career path does not end up how you wanted. Often, if you are patient, things can pan out a lot better than you thought they would. I guess another lesson of the story is: You shouldn't be scared to mix things up if you are not happy. If you're not happy in your current career, MIX IT UP!!!
